Anyone who knows me, knows that I love dogs - especially my black lab Griffin! It’s hard to believe Griffin has been with me since 2006, through moves and breakups and haircuts - he’s my constant sidekick and I can’t imagine my life without him.

Since we moved from Halifax to Toronto in 2008 we’ve spent a lot of time exploring the dog parks around the city. There are seemingly countless options to choose from, but we’ve narrowed it down to our few favourites - check out the list below:

1. Greenwood Park

Greenwood Park will always have a special place in my heart. Griffin and I lived for a time right on the corner of the park, at Greenwood and Gerrard, and spent a lot of time there. I met many good, long-term friends at Greenwood Park - and I think Griffin did, too! The park has a great off-leash area, plus a pool, a skating rink, and some baseball diamonds. It’s a great community hub, so if you’re in the area make sure you check it out!

2. Kew Beach

Griffin and I moved closer to the lake a few years ago, and since then we’ve begun exploring more dog-friendly places near the water, too. One of our favourites is Kew Beach, especially in the winter - dogs are allowed off-leash from November 1 to March 31, and Griffin loves the freedom of it. It’s worth the trek east to the Beaches, even if you don’t live nearby!

3. High Park

I know, I know - not everyone lives east of Yonge. If you live in the west end, don’t worry! I’ve got a favourite in your part of Toronto, too: High Park. It’s not a secret or a hidden gem; it’s probably on every list of favourite dog parks and with good reason. It’s beautiful, it’s in a great part of town, and it has an excellent off-leash area. What more could you want?

If you’ve got a favourite dog park that I didn’t mention here (and you probably do - there are so many to choose from!), let me know in the comments. And if you see Griffin and I out there, make sure you say hello!
